Rhys Fulber Unleashes Dark New Era with “The Abyss” and Upcoming Album Memory Impulse Autonomy

Canadian electronic icon Rhys Fulber dives deep into the shadows with his blistering new single “The Abyss,” the first taste of his upcoming album Memory Impulse Autonomy, due September 5th via Artoffact Records. Featuring the haunting vocals of Qual (William Maybelline), “The Abyss” slams together grinding basslines, scorched synths, and brutal industrial rhythms, creating a sonic experience that feels both punishing and eerily nostalgic. It’s a visceral opening shot from a project that promises to honour Fulber’s roots in early DIY electronics while pushing industrial techno into even harsher, darker territory.

Memory Impulse Autonomy is a powerful collision of past and present, blending the raw experimentation of Fulber’s early inspirations like Skinny Puppy and Cabaret Voltaire with the brutalist edge he’s known for today. Collaborations with artists like Barkosina and Konstantin Unwohl bring fresh energy to the album’s darkwave and EBM heart, while Fulber’s veteran hand keeps everything razor-sharp. From club-ready anthems to slow-burning electro-ballads, Fulber’s latest project feels like both a reflection on where electronic music has been and a defiant statement about where it’s going next. If The Abyss is any sign, September can’t come soon enough.
