Fire (Callistan Remix) by 0Stella

One of my favorite people in Canadian music right now is Liz Pomeroy, the artist behind the music project 0Stella. We’ve talked about Porrmeroy’s music before on the show and well we’re abou to do it again. Pomeroy released the 0Stella track Fire earlier this year. The track is a strong testament to self acceptance. In her own words Pomeroy describes the song as a “brazen declaration of imperfections”. Here’s a listen.

The song was recently remixed by Irish producer Callistan and that’s the new track we’re featuring here. Callistan is an Irish multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer. He’s even performed at Canadian Music Week while part of his old band “ELM”. Callistan is allso the owner of SeaDog Records and met Pomeroy when she signed to his label with her old band “House Of Cosy Cushions” in 2005.

Before we get into the track remix, I got a chance to sit down with 0Stellla and Callistan for an interview about the track, remixing it, and learning how to get along with yourself and your own imperfections. They also told me about a very cool organization called girls rock – I did a bit of tease arch and the first girls rock was in Portland origin and the name has become commonplace in most cities for independent girls rock and roll camps. Here’s my conversation with Liz Pomeroy of 0Stella and music producer and artist Callistan.

Gotta Get Up by Victoria Anthony

Imagine for a moment you’re at a concert, say a Pink concert and Pink relativity out of nowhere singles you out from a stadium crowd of 30,000 fans, hands you a microphone and asks you to sing whatever you want. That is what happened to Vancouver artist Victoria Anthony in 2018. The Vancouver teen got the idea to post a video of herself singing in her backyard, asking the artist outright to let her sing on stage during her Vancouver concert. It’s worth noting that Anthony did this in a bunny-onesie so I don’t think she was taking the whole thing too seriously. Nevertheless the litterall megastar took notice and hopped off stage to let Victoria have a go on the mic. Here’s some audio of the whole thing playing out, I wasn’t sure if I was going to include this but it’s just too heartwarming.

Anthony has since taken her musical destiny into her own hands so to speak. Releasing a number of singles including Because I’m A Girl, Without You, and Sleep, she’s also racked up almost 80k monthly listeners on Spotify alone. This is Anthony’s latest single Gotta Get Up.

30th Century War bt Born Ruffians

Born Ruffians are a Canadian indie rock band originally formed in 2004, originally from Midland, Ontario. The band recently released a full album Juice back in April and is currently gearing up for the followup album Squeez, our October 2, 2020. So if you’re listening to me in the future past October 2 the album should be available on all major streaming platforms. This is the newest pre-release single from the band’s new album Squeez, this is 30th Century War.

There’s a great line early on in that song that says I’m always looking over my shoulder or up in the sky, and I gotta say that’s a sentiment that I can absolutely understand and relate to in 2020, I wonder if Jesus will turn out to be an alien…

BONUS: And I’ll Wait For You Tonight by Atay & JAX

Sometimes as an independent music news outlet run by people with unrelated day jobs they need in order to make money to keep eating, we make mistakes. It’s 100% something we take seriously and we honestly try our best to do proper research and make sure we get everything right. To our credit, more often than not we do get it right. That said, two episodes ago I featured a band called Shark Week, that in fact is not called Shark Week at all. It turns out the album is called Shark Week, the band is called Atay & JAX and the album is called Shark Week. Atay & JAX is Adam Taylor and Jaxon Booth, and to make matters worse, it wasn’t even an album released by the duo at all, but the first solo album from JAX himself.
