Dream On by Oliver Pigott

Oliver Pigott is a Canadian indie-electro singer/songwriter/actor from Toronto, Canada. The artist spend his professional time between Nashville and Toronto working on various music projects. I don’t know how much traveling Pigott is up to lately, but at the tail end of 2020 he dropped a pretty special release and I wanted to share it with you guys today.

Pigott Began his career with a BMG Canada publishing deal in 2002. His time in the entertainment business has seen him as frontman for a number of projects of varying genres. Hes worked with some noteable industry names and has recorded in premier studios, including Abbey Road in London, England and CBC Studios in Toronto. You may also remember Oliver Pigott as a finalist on Canadian Idol, where he performed with his brother Sebastian.

At the tail end of last year with a second round of COVID-19 lockdowns on the horizon Pigott took the opportunity to get into the studio and record an incredible cover of Aerosmith’s iconic track Dream On.

Here is what Pigott has to say about the track “Here we were, my wife and kids and I, across the border in the USA in a charming small town, riding out the next wave of 2020 in a basement playing music with a few new friends and strangers.  That night we met a man who suffers from amnesia.  He came down to listen to us jam, apparently having been a musician himself before his near-fatal car accident.  As I played a few arpeggios over a D minor chord, he began to half mumble/half sing Dream On.  “You know it?” he asked me.  Of course, I replied.  He nodded and looked through me with piercing eyes.  “Great song, man.” Later that night he had forgotten that moment as well as who I was, and yet, we both knew the song would live on…  Back home, I began to dream of covering Dream On.”

Violet by BingeNinja & The First Seed

The First Seed (Adam Gabourie) and BingeNinja (Shane Burrow) are underground, independent artists who have been involved in the Ontario music scene for the better part of the last 20 years. The First Seed, an electronic musician/composer/producer and visual artist, has made a name for himself by releasing projects ranging from electronic thrash, digital hardcore, noisecore, and glitch-hop. BingeNinja’s main contributor/songwriter Shane Burrow records and performs full band records with a lineup consisting of Sean Tardo and Kyle “Prodigy” Koloszar. The trio have played relentlessly throughout Ontario, Quebec and even making their way as far as the West coast of Canada. With Burrow adopting an “Anything and Everything” approach to songwriting, his varied offerings span a wide range of genre’s harbouring full band, collaborative and solo releases that include Rock, Garage Punk, Metal, Acoustic, Piano, R&B and even, most recently Hip-Hop.

I sat down with the two artists over the Internet for an interview to talk about their new track Violet, check it out in this week’s interview.

Elvis ’77 by The Dirty Nil

The Dirty Nil has officially released their new album Fuck Art, and you know what, it’s pretty solid. I’m gonna take a bigger bite out of the album in an article later on but for now I wanted to share a track from the album that’s new, that stood out to me and I think you’re going to be excited about and stuff I hope.

If you don’t know The Dirty Nil, they’re a fast-paced-dont-call-us-punk-but-kind-punk-rock band from Hamilton ON and they make some pretty stellar tunes. Check out my interview with Luke from the Dirty Nil back in episode 25 of the show. Do that later though in the meantime hang out and listen to Elvis ‘77 by The Dirty Nil from their new album fuck Art – its available everywhere.
