Black Dawn by Wesley Attew

Wesley Attew is an English born singer/songwriter who immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 2015. Attew is currently based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. The artist moved to the city after a cross Canada tour in 2017 left the artist in love with the city. I’m such a bad Canadian – I’ve never been out to Vancouver. Isn’t that just unacceptable?

Attew describes his writing style as cinematic and his songs as an attempt to illustrate the unparalleled sensation of experiencing the world and the other people in it.

Attew writes provocative modern folk rock inspired by the years he spent traveling through Europe and Asia before moving to Canada. His sound is unique, hearty and soulful and fresh. The artist describes his sound as “whiskey infused honey generously poured over ice”. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

The artist has been featured on radio stations across Canada and even had airplay on England’s BBC. That’s like our CBC but you know, fancier.  Attew has a new single out and we’re going to play that right now for you here on Dropout Radio. This is the new one from Wesley Attew it’s called Black Dawn.

Samurai Sword by Chad VanGaalen

Chad VanGaalen is a Canadian indie artist from Calgary Alberta. If you haven’t heard of him, that’s totally on you because VanGaalen’s 2008 album ‘Soft Airplane’ was nominated for a JUNO and short-listed for the Polaris Music Prize in the same year. VanGaalen has also released a full length album called ‘Snow Blindness is Crystal Ants’ – which I checked by the way the last time it was snowing in my face and on mushrooms and you know what… snow blindness is indeed crystal ants. I’ll fight you.

VanGaalen is currently signed to Flemish Eye Records, a Canadian label and the first to release VanGaalen’s music. The artist is also currently signed to SUB POP – arguably the most infamous indie label in modern music history.
VanGaalen is a true artist when you listen to his music. His catalogue is experimental and ever evolving. He has a new single out as of last week called Samurai Sword. The single is off his upcoming album ‘World’s Most Stressed Out Gardener’ due out on March 19, 2021. This is ‘Samurai Sword’ by Chad VanGaalen.

Alive by Devon Cole

Devon Cole was born in Toronto Canada and raised in Calgary Alberta. She’s recently moved back to Toronto and has hit the ground running with her first single ‘July for the Whole Year’ – which came out back in September of 2020 – are we allowed to say 2020? The song amazed over 200,000 plays on the Spotify platform alone. As I mentioned Cole recently moved back to Toronto, which is on planet Earth so she has access to zoom and thus I was able to sit down with Cole for an interview.
