Quarantine Songs #31 – Melissa Bel
Following a cut on Avril Lavigne’s recent single “Tell Me It’s Over”, Toronto-bred, UK-based Melissa Bel is quickly becoming a sought-after songwriter in addition to her burgeoning artist career. Since moving to the UK in 2016 Melissa has performed at The Shard, The Gherkin and Tower Bridge as well as The Hospital Club, for Ticketmaster at The Natural History Museum, and Cornbury Festival among others. She has supported artists such as Joey Landreth, Maverick Sabre and Kylie at Hampton Court Palace Festival 2019.
Her latest single “Can’t Go Home”, a luminescent pop-folk banger with new-vintage flare, was produced by Joseph Cross (The Courteeners) and received support from Amazon Music Canada being placed on their Brand New Music playlist as well as reaching #25 on the iTunes UK Top 200 Country chart.
Now faced with the welcome challenge of deciding which songs to pitch to other artists and which to keep, Bel is currently working on a new EP of songs that are “too personal to pitch”, expected in 2020.
