Set Me Free – Holly Clausius (New Single)
Although some big plans for this summer were put on hold, Toronto singer-songwriter Holly Clausius hasn’t let Covid-19 slow her down or stop her from getting her music to her listeners. Clausius used the time to not only keep her fans entertained via a live streaming series from her home, but also to bring us the touching new single “Set Me Free”.
“This song means a great deal to me because it is the first song that I’ve recorded on my own here in quarantine. I was due to release my debut EP ‘Sunflower’ this June and tour across Canada, but because of COVID-19 I had to delay production/tour. Instead of sitting around and moping, I bought an interface, condenser mic and speakers, and went to work.” The song features Ben Graffam on drums and Alex Purcell on guitar/bass/organ. In April Holly wrote a song a day for 30 days. Set Me Free was one of those songs, which really goes to show the incredible art that can be made when an artist pushes themselves creatively.
The pop-rock jam talks about wanting to be free of someone’s love, a task sometimes easier said than done. “We’ve all had romances where we wanted to cut ties, but the heart wants what it wants, and we can hear this throughout the entire piece with haunting harmonies and lyrics bathed in pure honesty.”
