The Washboard Union Release New Song “Neon Needs The Night”

JUNO and 9x CCMA award-winning band The Washboard Union, release their new love song “Neon Needs The Night,” via Universal Music Canada and available on all streaming platforms.

Written by the band, along with their producer, friend and co-writer Dave “Dwave” Thomson (Lady A, High Valley), “Neon Needs the Night” is a love song that makes you want to drive with the top down on a desert highway with the warm wind in your hair and that special someone by your side. It speaks to the idea that sometimes you simply can’t live or won’t function without each other. This mid tempo track is a nod to classic 90’s country and marks a bit of a departure for what some people might expect from the band.

“Some things don’t just belong together, they need each other. It’s like you can’t have one without the other because it just doesn’t work. “Neon Needs the Night” is a love song about how the best part of you comes alive when it finds the person you were meant for,” said Chris Duncombe of The Washboard Union. “It was a song we had been playing a lot backstage in warmups so it came really easy when it was time to record it with Dwave Thomson who co-wrote the song and produced it with us as well.”

“Neon Needs The Night” is the fourth track of new material from the band’s new collection of songs. It follows The Washboard Union’s recent releases “Sometimes You Don’t Need A Plan,” “Gather Round” and “I Run On Country,” which hit #13 on the Canadian country radio charts and has accumulated over 2.6 million combined streams and video views to date. “Gather Round” is at Canadian country radio now, and gaining spins.

The Washboard Union, composed of step-brothers Aaron Grain, Chris Duncombe and their best friend David Roberts, have carved their place as one of Canada’s top country bands. Some of their many successes include garnering over 81 million streams, 35+ total award wins and 380,000 radio spins, with two Top 5 hits and nine Top 10 hits. The band has one Platinum and four Gold-certified singles, two of which are from the award-winning album Everbound (2020), which won CCMA Awards for Group of the Year and Roots Album of the Year. The band also remains the only country group to ever win a JUNO Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year.

The Washboard Union have set themselves apart with their unique sound and undeniable live show.
