Family Man Release Crawlers

Would you still date me if I was a worm? What if we were both worms?

We all have that one person that enters your life and upends it for the worse. “CRAWLERS” explores the idea of a toxic relationship and the line between symbiosis and parasitism. Drawn from the personal experience of guitarist, Nick, the song equates a toxic person to an insect, nothing more than a soul-sucking parasite.

At the onset, it’s easy for one to blame this person, taking stock of all the lies, infidelities and miscommunications. Upon further reflection however, the earth-shattering conclusion that we are also at fault can be just as devastating, as we see ourselves “becoming a crawler too.”

Often, most of the qualities people despise in others are merely a projection of themselves and their own insecurities. The lyrics of the song are written and performed in the form of an argumentative rant, expressing frustrations and directing cheeky (but hurtful) insults at someone as a form of retaliation for the pain they have caused. To call someone an “earthworm” is to unknowingly admit you’re hiding from something yourself.

Family Man is no country band, yet “CRAWLERS” has a very present western tonality to it. The vocal delivery has a sassiness to it that the band has yet to broach in their songs that further deepens the comedic self-loathing that the song is about.
