Legendary Canadian Country/Folk/Bluegrass Group The Good Brothers Pay Tribute to Dallas Good with New Single “Now That You’re Gone”

Celebrating over five decades of musical excellence, legendary Canadian country, folk, and bluegrass trio The Good Brothers have released a heartfelt new single, “Now That You’re Gone.” This poignant track, available via Countrycore Records, serves as a tribute to the late Dallas Good of The Sadies, the beloved son of Bruce Good.
The song, which features The Sadies providing full instrumental accompaniment, is a deeply personal reflection on loss and remembrance. Dallas Good, who co-founded the alt-country band The Sadies with his brother Travis, tragically passed away on February 17, 2022, at the age of 48. In an emotional statement, Bruce Good shared:
“After the sudden passing of my son Dallas, I hoped that expressing my feelings through music might soften the blow of such a profound loss. This song became my therapy and helped diminish the everlasting pain.”
Brian Good echoed this sentiment, adding:
“‘Now That You’re Gone’ is a wonderful tribute to the memory of my late nephew Dallas. His spirit will live on in my brother Bruce’s touching lyrics and haunting melody.”
The Good Brothers—Bruce, Brian, and Larry Good—are among Canada’s most celebrated country music artists. Their impressive career spans over five decades, during which they have earned eight consecutive JUNO Awards (1977-1984), multiple Canadian Country Music Association Awards, and induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame (2004). Additional honors include a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Toronto Musicians Association (2015) and the Impact Award from the Country Music Association of Ontario (2019).
Formed in 1973, The Good Brothers played a pivotal role in shaping Canada’s country, folk, and bluegrass scene. Alongside icons such as Gordon Lightfoot, Ian & Sylvia Tyson, and Blue Rodeo, they helped bring Canadian music to the world stage. Their influence and enduring appeal have seen them tour extensively, including over 40 tours across Europe.
In 2023, The Good Brothers partnered with rising Canadian producer and country artist Graham Trude and his label, Countrycore Records, to embark on a new musical journey. Speaking on this collaboration, the trio shared:
“As we celebrate over 50 years of making music together, we are thrilled to enter this partnership with Countrycore Records. We look forward to future endeavors that will highlight our music, past and present.”
The Good Brothers’ origins trace back to 1970 when twin brothers Bruce and Brian Good joined forces with James Ackroyd to form James and The Good Brothers. Their debut performance was alongside Grand Funk Railroad at Maple Leaf Gardens, followed by a cross-country tour as part of the legendary Festival Express alongside The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and The Band.
After a stint in California recording with Columbia Records and performing at famed venues like The Troubadour and Fillmore West, Bruce and Brian returned to Canada, where they recruited their younger brother Larry and officially became The Good Brothers. Their debut performance as a trio took place on May 14, 1974, at Toronto’s renowned Riverboat club. Over the years, their signature sound—highlighted by Larry’s fiery banjo playing, Bruce’s award-winning autoharp stylings, Brian’s intricate guitar work, and their signature harmonies—has cemented their place as Canadian music royalty.
With the release of “Now That You’re Gone,” The Good Brothers continue to honour their roots while embracing new creative opportunities. Their heartfelt tribute to Dallas Good is a testament to the enduring power of music to heal, celebrate, and preserve cherished memories.
