CIMVA Rules And Regulations
The Dropout Independent Music Video Awards is Canada’s first Awards for Canadian music videos produced for/by artists that are not signed to any of the three major labels.
By Entering or Nominating someone in this contest you unquestionably agree to all of the below rules and regulations.
Rules and Regulations:
This contest is open to Canadian Independent artists only. Submitted videos must have been released during the 2021 season (January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021).
Artist entries must be Independent, this contest does not accept entries from artists signed to the three major music labels (Warner, Sony, or Universal).
This contest is open to all residents from all provinces of Canada except Quebec.
Nominations are now open, and close January 26, 2022. Round one of the contest will be open to user votes from February 1, 2022, to Feb 14, 2022.
User votes will account for three of the six finalists in each genre category. The additional three finalists will be determined by the Dropout Entertainment Editorial Team.
As of Feb 18, 2022 the category finalists will be posted and voting will again open for round two.
Voting for genre category winners will run until March 5, 2022. Genre category winners are chosen by a combination of user and judges votes, while the overall best video of 2021 is determined at the sole discretion of the Dropout Editorial Team & CIMVA judges.
$1500 in cash prizes will be awarded to the winners with more prizes to be announced shortly. Genre winners and runners-up will receive unlimited bragging rights for use at their own discretion.
All awards will be announced at a live or virtual event in 2022, the date of which has yet to be announced.
If for any reason an artist entry appears to be tampered with or an artist is thought to be engaged in falsifying votes, it’s within the full rights of dropoutentertainment.ca to immediately disqualify that artist, video and production team from the contest. In a case where a video or artist is disqualified, the decision is final and no amount of rude or threatening emails or direct messages is going to change that. So calm down, and don’t cheat. It’s really that simple.
Dropout Entertainment reserves the unlimited right to use visuals and music from the submitted video for the purposes of promoting Dropout Entertainment, Dropout Radio, and The Canadian Independent Music Video Awards now and in the future.
Dropout Entertainment does not guarantee your video will win the cash prize just because you entered the contest. Dropout Entertainment does not guarantee your video will be chosen to showcase in the final public-facing contest just because you entered the contest. Dropout Entertainment assumes no responsibility for any expenses incurred as a result of entering this contest.
Dropout Entertainment reserves the right to change these rules and regulations at any time without notice. By entering this contest you retroactively agree to any future revisions made to these rules and regulations.
Winners will be announced by email and displayed publicly on DropoutEntertainment.ca until September 2022.
Rights & Usage:
Ownership of the underlying intellectual property of the project remains with the entrant. However, by submitting an entry, Entrants grant Dropout Entertainment the following rights to use, share and reproduce student video projects:
Dropout Entertainment may use video submissions – including names, photographs, statements, quotes, testimonials – for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes without notification or further compensation.
Dropout Entertainment may reproduce, share, perform and/or display the entrant’s video submissions – including names, photographs, statements, quotes, testimonials – without further compensation or notification to the entrant.
Dropout Entertainment maintains the right to reproduce, share, perform and/or display or exhibit video submissions – including names, photographs, statements, quotes, testimonials – for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes on their website, at conferences, or at any other venues.
The entrant hereby confirms that the work is an original work, solely created by the individual entrant or group and that no third party participated as an author, co-author, photographer or otherwise in the creation of the work or any part thereof. The Entrant hereby confirms that the work and content comply with all local, provincial, and national laws, including copyright. No copyrighted materials (music, images, etc.) may be used for this contest unless the Entrant owns the copyright or has a license to use the material for this contest. Written permission must be obtained and provided upon request for all copyrighted materials.
Dropout Entertainment assumes no responsibility for any claims of infringement of rights to copyright, privacy, and/or personality, and all such liability shall remain with the entrant. Dropout Entertainment reserves the right to exclude any work on the basis of concerns relating to the rights of third parties, including but not limited to privacy, copyright, defamation, rights of personality, obscenity or hate speech, as determined by Dropout Entertainment in their sole discretion.
Indemnification:
By entering this Contest, each Entrant agrees to release and hold harmless the Dropout Entertainment and its employees, officers, directors, agents, representatives, and contractors from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind to the Entrants or any other person in connection with this Contest or participation in any Contest-related activities, including but not limited to personal injury, death or property damage. Each Entrant agrees to fully indemnify the Dropout Entertainment from any and all claims by third parties relating to the Contest, without limitation.
Limitation of Liability:
Dropout Entertainment and its authorized agents are not responsible for any lost, late, unintelligible/illegible, falsified, damaged, misdirected, or incomplete entries, notifications, responses, or replies. Dropout Entertainment is not responsible for any computer, online, software, telephone, hardware or technical malfunctions that may occur, including but not limited to malfunctions that may affect the transmission or non-transmission of an entry. Dropout Entertainment is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users, equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest or any technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest. Dropout Entertainment is not responsible for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft, destruction, or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Dropout Entertainment is not responsible for any problems, failures or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, providers, computer equipment, software, email, players, or browsers, on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at any website, or due to any combination of the foregoing or otherwise. Dropout Entertainment and its authorized agents are not responsible for any injury or damage to an entrant’s or prospective entrant’s computer or to any computer related to or resulting from participating, attempting to participate, or entering the Contest. Entrant assumes liability for injuries caused or claimed to be caused by participating in the contest, or by the acceptance, possession, use of, or failure to receive any prize.
Termination, Modification, and Responsibility:
Dropout Entertainment reserves the right, in their sole discretion, to terminate the Contest, in whole or in part, and/or modify, amend or suspend the Contest, and/or the Contest Rules in any way, at any time, for any reason without prior notice. Dropout Entertainment is not responsible for any errors or omissions in printing or advertising this Contest.
Social Media:
This Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by any social media platforms on which the Contest may have been promoted and/or publicized, including but not limited to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter.
