Interview With blue opaline’s Ariyena sorani – Indie Week Rewind

Interview with Ariyena Sorani at Revival Bar during Indie Week 2019. Ariyena talks about her band Blue Opaline organizing youth events, what inspired her from such a young age and shares some words of encouragement for other young artists trying to break into the scene. Blue Opaline is a seriously committed indie rock band from Toronto. Taking the best of the old and the vibe of the new and slamming it together with a unique fashion sense and just the freedom to be kids that want to rock. They each bring their own unique style of music to the band and are not afraid to experiment with mixing it all together. Young and determined, they want to be heard through the music they make. The focus is on writing songs first, fully developed ideas with real structure, real stories with fun choruses and hooks. The sound is centered around power house vocals from Ariyena Sorani, deep grooves from lead guitarist Wyatt Garvin, funky rhythmic beats from drummer Thomas Carli and soulful bassist William Kilbride. They all met through music rock camps or arts high schools. They are friends first and this is core for building trust, having fun and most importantly encouraging each other to stay focused on making music that matters.

In celebration of Indie Week’s return, Dropout Entertainment will be featuring “Indie Week Rewind” all this week, with photos, interviews, live videos and previously unreleased material from 2019’s festival. Indie Week is one of Canada’s leading festivals for independent music and we’re excited to reminisce in it’s glory before heading into it’s 2020 edition, which runs from November 10th to 14th.

The 18th edition of Indie Week Canada is switching gears by offering a 5-day online conference. 2020 has brought many changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in response, what would normally be an in person event taking place across multiple venues in Toronto, will now be online. This will allow for more international attendees and connections than ever before.

“Indie Week Canada is committed to using this online platform to be a leader moving forward in a positive direction. Connecting artists, industry and fans from around the world is more important now than ever before as the music industry adapts and evolves. Now is the time to log on, connect, and move forward together.”
