2020 Songwriter Of The Year Andrew Waite Releases Stunning New Music Video For “Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That”
Today’s Song of The Day is Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That by Andrew Waite. After winning the SOCAN Songwriter of the Year award from Music PEI in 2020, this is Waites first release of 2021 and wow is he ever starting the year off strong! With songs that are honest and rugged, combining raw sound with electric showmanship, Andrew Waite’s passion for songwriting, stage performance and music education is undeniable. Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That is a powerful song about pushing through, keeping forward momentum going, and not letting others bring you down when they’re not doing the same, something we all need to be doing this year, as hard as it might seem. But as much as that sounds like it was written in 2020, it was actually written with Chris Kirby and Colin MacDonald of The Trews, with a different kind of hindrance in mind. They wrote the song about the experience of working with someone who just isn’t pulling their weight. Someone who’s a drag on the team, who’s throwing in the towel and just doesn’t care anymore. A problem that doesn’t seem to have come up during the making of this project, because everything about it is so incredible. Waite’s vocals keep a folky resonance while their power pushes into a rock n roll vibe and are displayed over an incredibly infectious rock track, featuring killer guitars mixed with a beautiful combination of trumpets and saxophones. If you’re ever thinking about giving up on a project, I’m fairly convinced that no matter what it is, this sax solo might get you through it. When I saw a new Andrew Waite song come through my email this is not what I was expecting to open, but I’m so glad it is what it is. This incredible new track comes with an equally incredible music video, featuring Andrew Waite, well a few versions of Andrew Waite, in an abandoned mansion, and I think this it’s safe to say this is one of my favourite Canadian music videos of 2021 so far. The shots are beautiful, the special effects are amazing, and the creativity is flowing over the brim on this one.
About the timing of the release, Waite’s noted “It’s kind of funny, we wrote it really from the perspective of someone you’re working with or playing in a band with, that really brings the whole team down, or is giving up but it also seems so suiting with regards to how shitty 2020 has been on everyone. I guess it’s somewhat apt to be releasing it now.” If you’re as big a fan of the new track as I am, you’ll be happy to know that at the end of the video Waite announces that he’ll be back soon with “Full Time Trying to Live”, so there’s one more thing to look forward to in 2021. I couldn’t think of a better new track to start off your Monday with, this is Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That, on Dropout Radio’s Song of The Day.
