James Noble’s new single Focus, out now!

Focus proves that there is a space for positive and impactful hip hop in the scene. With his enlightened wordplay Noble is able to explore topics that aren’t often covered while his beats keep him grounded in the ever popular rap of today.

Calgary’s own James Noble (an African-Canadian rapper and producer) began his rap career in college when he connected with some other MC’s in Texas where he sharpened his skills before returning to Canada. When returning to Canada Noble became a pastor for inner city youth and his experiences during this time shaped his artistry even further. This is where he decided to above all things focus on having a positive impact on those same youth through his music.

His recent single Focus is a perfect demonstration of that plan. With Noble’s signature thought provoking, uplifting rhymes he takes us on the journey of someone with unwavering focus who doesn’t let those outside and sometimes inner distractions take us off our path. Being dead set on what they want with no option for failure. Lots of lines stick out in this track that I think many of us can relate to in different ways. One of my favourites being a simple yet meaningful one liner in the hook. Noble raps “Right here eyes up (Focus), or you feed the void” which i’m sure many of us can relate to in regards to our ever growing societal issue of mental health. 

There were many more bars that stuck with me and I think everyone that listens to it would probably pick out different parts that touched them or motivated them. I think Noble does a great job of creating this uplifting music, as rap is primarily what the youth do listen to he is in a great field to reach them. Arguably his biggest accomplishment with this song is how he still manages to keep it enjoyable to listen to and approachable which is difficulty to do in this style of rap.
