ANCIENT TEETH RELEASE NEW VIDEO – ‘SACRIFICE’

Ancient Teeth has shared a new video for ‘Sacrifice’ and it is a true testament to the times we are living in. A testament to pivoting when pivoting is called for and to leaning into shifting times – even when it might hurt. Being forced out of work in 2023 by the WGA strike, which focused predominantly on AI taking away jobs, Ancient Teeth (Adrian Mottram – Sights & Sounds, Seas, The Getaway) wanted to see what the technology that was changing the world in such a big way could bring to the studio. Today, we are given a showcase of what came out of the experimentation in the new video.

On the new video, Mottram comments: “In 2022 when the American studios pulled their productions out of Montreal I had a lot of time on my hands so I began learning Unreal Engine, I used Midjourney to help me create environments in Unreal, and in addition I used a program called Runway AI to add motion to my images. Since I’m an independent artist I think this use of technology was perfect for making a music video and 10/10 would do it again.”

Ancient Teeth is unhinged ‘Dream Noise’. Stacked, fuzzed out guitars woven together with soaring, lush vocals, the music evolves effortlessly from heavy punk rock to atmospheric acoustic murals. The anthemic, guitar driven debut album ‘Deathbed’ was released in early 2023 and is a landmark display of musical maturity. Emotionally rich, the album deals thematically with the heavy lessons that age and experience teach.

The project began in 2019 as a personal outlet for Mottram to focus on songwriting while processing major life events. Backed in the studio by a legendary lineup of veteran musicians who are closer to getting a root canal than starting a TikTok page, including guitarist Chris Hughes (Moneen, Seas), bassist Jahmeel Russell (Red Vienna, Actors, KEN mode), and drummer Mike Duffield (Beams, Flowers From Hell), the incredible musicality that is birthed when musicians support one another, unequivocally, shines through on every recording.

“When I started Ancient Teeth I was living in Vancouver, experiencing the circle of life first hand, and I didn’t really have a plan beyond making an album – which eventually became Deathbed (LP1). Chris, Mike & Jahmeel were instantly there for me as friends, and delivered flawless performances. They have continued to show up every time a record is ready to go and that absolutely rules.” reflects Mottram.

Simply put, Ancient Teeth is Mottram’s mind and soul on a silver platter, held up and put on display with the help of a solid group of friends who collect to celebrate making music for music’s sake. “The impetus aims to inspire positivity and light against all of the ever-growing darkness in the world. I was put on this earth to make records and want to share that.”
