Save Toronto Music Venues Announces Bitchfest 2023, Highlighting Female, Non-Binary, Trans and Two-Spirit Voices in The Music Scene

Save Toronto Music Venues has announced the 2nd annual “BITCHFEST!” festival; celebrating female, female identifying, non-binary, trans and two spirited artists, business owners, promoters, sound engineers, bookers, managers, radio hosts, visual artists and fans within the Toronto Music Community. BITCHFEST! Was created to shine a light on marginalized members of the community whose voices are often silenced or gone unnoticed. The festival aims to provide a safe and accessible space for these artists to take to the front and be heard without judgment from their peers or fear. They strive to create a future landing pad for the younger generations who are watching from home, because representation and celebration of fem artists can only serve to empower the future of music.

This year, STMV has chosen to sponsor another local non profit organization called “Guitars4Grrrls”, operating out of London, Ontario. “Guitars4Grrrls” is on a mission to put guitars and guitar related gear into the hands of little grrrls, non binary, trans and two spirit children and teens who have interest in learning but don’t have access to the equipment needed to learn hands on. “Guitars4Grrrls” empowers the next generation of riotgrrrls to step to the front and take up more space within the music community! A portion of the proceeds from this year’s festival will be sent to “Guitars4Grrrls” in solidarity.

In addition to festival proceeds being donated, and in collaboration with Putoutyourownrecords and Stomp Records, their mutual aid department has put together a digital compilation album called “Guitars4Grrrls Vol 1” featuring the BITCHFEST! 2023 artist line up, including bands like “The Black Void”, “Gaijin Smash”, “Billie Rogue”, “By Octopi” and Stomp Records band “Doghouse Rose”.
