Canadian New Wave pioneers Spoons treated fans at Base 31, a former 70-acre WWII air training base turned cultural destination. Even now we’re into October, it felt like a beautiful summer night, and fans gathered early to enjoy some time on the Base, have some drinks and grab some food before what was about to be a great show. I don’t know if I’ve seen a setup quite as cool as Base 31’s to hang out as the sun goes down and the musics about to start. Spoons set really got people moving, playing hits like “Nova Heart,” “Romantic Traffic,” and “Old Emotions”. It was really beautiful to see how connected so many fans were to the music, singing back with their full hearts. I met a woman who told me that when she was in highscool, Spoons was their favourite band, and this year they were all turning 60 so they decided to all travel in from where ever they lived to relive the music. It’s so cool to see how music can bring people together all these years later, and really a testament to the power of Spoons music and the affect it has had on people.
