Steve Mahabir Releases Powerful New Single About Love and Addiction “Away”
Toronto singer/songwriter/guitarist Steve Mahabir returns with “Away” (Oct 10) the second single from his upcoming album “Peace Love War & Hate” which will be released later this fall.
“Away” is a powerful song about love and addiction, built around the haunting refrain: “I can’t live without you, I can’t live with you.” The track captures the tension between escape and desire between saving yourself and holding on to what you’ve built
“This song is about trying to save yourself and your relationships when addiction is in the room,” says Mahabir. “It’s about the line between love and survival.”
A veteran of Toronto’s indie scene, Mahabir co-founded the 1980s alt-rock band Groovy Religion, backing poet Jim Carroll several times, and has performed with Peter J. Moore, the late Grammy- and Genie-winning producer/engineer known for his work with Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Cowboy Junkies and Joe Strummer.
“Peace Love War & Hate” was the last album recorded, engineered and produced by Peter J. Moore at his Concord Sound Studio. Additional recording and engineering were done by George Guerra, with additional production from Terry Brown — the legendary producer for Rush, The Who, and Donovan amongst others. The album features Steve Mahabir on vocals and guitar, John Borra on bass, and Blue Rodeo’s Michael Boguski (keyboards) and Glenn Milchem (drums).
