Blue Rodeo Opens Base 31 Concert Season

Blue Rodeo rolled back into Picton, Ontario for another sold-out night at the Drill Hall at Base31, and they reminded everyone why they’ve remained one of Canada’s most beloved bands for over 40 years.

From How Long and Diamond Mine to Try, Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor had the crowd singing along all night, backed by a band that was firing on all cylinders! A scorching guitar solo from Colin Cripps was one of several highlights throughout the fun filled night. 

The 1,500-seat Drill Hall continues to be one of the best places to catch live music with it being big enough for great energy, but intimate enough to feel connected to the artists, compared to larger venues I’ve seen them play. Experiencing Blue Rodeo in a venue this size felt like a real treat.

★★★★½ A masterclass from one of Canada’s most enduring bands.

The night kicked off with Brooks & Bowskill, whose blend of country, folk, and rock was the perfect way to get the party going before the real rodeo started. Guitarist Jimmy Bowskill performed double duty in both bands as Brooks and Bowskill played a set list that featured music from their first two releases, Blissful State of Mind and Too Many Roads.

Another great doubleheader of music in Prince Edward County, reminding us all the power of live performances! 

The Blue Rodeo show officially launched with the summer concert season with a schedule of acts to follow that includes Father John Misty, Sam Roberts, Beaches, USS, Angine De Poitrine. Glorious Sons, Big Wreck and more.
