Edge of California – Millians Ft. Catherine Kennedy (New Single)

Edge of California – Millians Ft. Catherine Kennedy (New Single)

Millians are helping to bring summer early this year with their new single “Edge of California”. As the weather is starting to get nicer and the days a little longer, this track will definitely help usher in those summer vibes. And I don’t know about you, but I can definitely use all the good vibes I can get right now, so sitting back and listening to this song was quite refreshing as it’s got plenty of those. New Brunswick singer & songwriter Dan Verner, who was the runner up for 2019’s Best Canadian Independent Pop Video, told us

“The song is about living life to the fullest, while valuing the people you have around you more than the material things in life, and I think it’s really topical right now in these crazy times.” I don’t think they could have dropped this track at a better time, as I think a lot of people will really relate to the lyrics during this climate. Relationships with other people, experiences and memories made are so invaluable and I think this song is a beautiful reminder of just that. The track gets me excited to get some friends together, go on a nice long road trip when this is all over and trade it all for a mountain view.

The song made the semifinals in the International Songwriting Competition this year and it’s easy to see why. Right off the bat, that beautiful velvety voice hooks you with the line “I’ve been dreaming, of getting almost somewhere, or maybe even nowhere, with you” and keeps building up with catchy, greatly written electronic music elements behind it. It’s at about 1:18 when the chorus kicks in that the instrumentation really sucks you in, somehow it feels like it wraps itself around you entirely and your engulfed in the song.

Although it sounds like it very well could have been written this month, New Brunswick songwriting trio of Nick Fowler (aka electronic music artist FWLR), alt-pop artist Dan Verner and indie-folk artist Catherine Kennedy wrote the song in the studio last year. Verner said “As soon as we heard Catherine’s voice on it we knew it was going to be a big song. It’s a breath of fresh air and a feel-good summery tune and we are so excited to share it.” It certainly is a breath of fresh air, which is something we could all use right now. There’s so much negative news going on right now, that this little burst of positivity that was transmitted through this song certainly made my day a little better, and I hope it does the same for you.
