Change by Devarrow – Dropout Radio Song Of The Day Feb 10th

Today’s Song of The Day is Change by Devarrow. Every day at 9, 12, 3 & 7 we’re showcasing some of Canada’s best independent music, from artists of all genres and all across the country. Stay tuned til the end of The Song of The Day for your chance to win Dropout merch.

Devarrow is an indie folk singer songwriter from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Change came out in 2020 but it’s been in the works for a while. Devarrow had written the song back when he was writing his first proper album, “The Great Escape”, but it didn’t end up on that record, nor his next. Upon its release he said the song felt like it had been with him since the beginning, so it was nice for it to finally emerge from under the bed and let him show it to us.

The music video for Change is a really fun one, taking place inside none other than a Value Village. Devarrow had explained that he dislikes the pressure for contemporary folk musicians to have to be kind of melancholic and serious all the time and this video felt like a great way to push back that narrative. He noted that he does indeed feel the seriousness of his art, but a lot of times he feels like a goof, so why not show that side of his art too? And why not? This is Change by Devarrow, Dropout Radio’s Song of The Day
