Blackberry Smoke brought their 25th Anniversary Tour to HISTORY Ottawa on
Tuesday night, delivering a solid evening of Southern rock, blues and
country-flavoured rock and roll.
Canadian blues-rock band Bywater Call opened the show with an energetic set
that proved to be a perfect fit for the evening. This 7-piece Toronto Roots,
Rock and Soul band played songs from their just released new album “Broken
Souvenirs”.
Blackberry Smoke hit the stage with “All Over the Road” before rolling
through fan favourites including “Good One Comin’ On,” “Pretty Little Lie,”
“Waiting for the Thunder” and “The Whippoorwill.”
Led by Charlie Starr, the band sounded tight throughout the night, combining
strong musicianship with the relaxed Southern swagger that has defined their
sound for 25 years.
Highlights included “Sleeping Dogs,” “One Horse Town” and “Like an Arrow.”
The encore featured Tom Petty’s “You Got Lucky” before the band closed the
night with “Ain’t Much Left of Me.”
Twenty-five years into their career, Blackberry Smoke showed Ottawa that
their combination of great songs, loud guitars and Southern rock remains as
strong as ever.
