Gowan Live @ Bronson Music Centre & Empire Theatre
Gowan – Winter Tour 2026
Review and Photos –
Ottawa – Mark Kelly/Rocketman Photography
Belleville – Stuart Roberts
The Photo Roadies recently had the opportunity to attend two Ontario shows from
Canada’s kilted-rocker, Gowan. On break from his lead singer duties with the legendary STYX,
Gowan went on a short Ontario tour that included SOLD OUT nights at the Bronson Music Centre in Ottawa and the Empire Theatre in Belleville.
From Ottawa:
Performing to a sold-out crowd, the Canadian rock icon delivered a high-energy celebration marking the 40th anniversary of his landmark Strange Animal .
In a treat for devoted followers, Gowan performed the Strange Animal album exactly as it appears on the record, in sequence also with all the hits. Rather than feeling predictable, the format created a sense of anticipation as each familiar intro triggered cheers of recognition. It also underscored just how strong the album remains four decades later – a collection of songs that still sound vibrant and emotionally immediate.
Gowan also treated the audience to a Styx deep cut, “Khedive,” co-written with Tommy Shaw. The exceptional instrumental performance was both powerful and atmospheric, building layer upon layer until it completely enveloped the room.
Forty years on, Strange Animal still has teeth – and Gowan is still one of the most captivating performers to ever stalk a Canadian stage with showmanship that remains extraordinary.
