(Premiere) Screen Door – Skylar Bouchard

This morning Winnipeg’s Skylar Bouchard released the beatifully textured new single “Screen Door”. This is one of my favourites yet, and if there’s one thing you can always expect when he puts out a new track, it’s phenomenal song writing & story telling, with each new single taking you down a different emotionally winding path. Like many of Bouchards songs, Screen Door reveals itself layer by layer and before you know it it’s made it’s way into your heart and is already stuck in your head. The instrumentation on this track perfectly suits Bouchards unique and enthrawling voice and makes for a great listen. The song was written around a campfire a few years back while Bouchard was playing at Winnipeg Folk Fest. When asked about the track Skylar told us

Screen Door was inspired by the street I grew up on. A gravel road just outside of the city where people park to get privacy. A lover’s lane of sorts.

The track was recorded by my friend Derek Benjamin in his studio. [Screen Door] features my old band mates and dear friends Daniel Simoes, Alex Mackinnon and Gerald Bulera. “

There will be a release party tomorrow to celebrate the new single at The Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Bar in Winnipeg, before Bouchard does a small run through Saskatchewan to support the release and party it up for the Junos! If you haven’t seen him live yet I couldn’t recommend it more and if you have you know exactly why I’m saying that. You can find info on the event here

Bouchard describes 2020 as being the most exciting year of his career so far, with lots of new tunes to record and the publication of his first long form piece of writing, “The Night I (almost) Escaped Rehab” which will be released in July. As for his next single

The next single is a fun, feel-good hit for the summer. It’s called “The Downtown Blues” and I’ve got an amazing group of musicians helping me on it and I’m very excited to share it with you! “

Screen Door is now available everywhere, hopefully you enjoyed this new tune as much as I did, to keep up with Skylar Bouchard you can visit his website which you links you to all his social media accounts here
